The Melbourne Excimer Laser Group was established in 1991 as the first laser centre in Victoria to evaluate what was then, the emerging technology of Excimer laser surgery for the correction of shortsightedness and other refractive errors. In conjunction with the Department of Ophthalmology Melbourne University [now incorporating Center Eye Research Australia] and with the cooperation of the Royal Victorian Eye & Ear Hospital, The Melbourne Excimer Laser Group has published internationally the results of research and pursued developments with this exciting technology. Acknowledged internationally as one of the leading treatment and research centres, the group has remained at the forefront of vision correction surgery.
The Melbourne Excimer Laser Group has continued this partnership with the Royal Victorian Eye & Ear Hospital, and provides training for Ophthalmology Registrars and Corneal Fellows. This includes leading work in the application of the Excimer laser in the treatment of corneal disease, and the publication of results and research findings in a number of international medical journals. Several of the group’s members have also contributed to textbooks on the subject of Excimer laser and refractive surgery.
With the combined experience of the member eye surgeons of the Melbourne Excimer Laser Group, we can provide quality specialist eye care with the economic benefits that a shared facility provides. Practices of the surgeons from the Melbourne Excimer Laser Group are conveniently located throughout the metropolitan and Geelong area.
