After:LASIK LASIK patients are generally quite comfortable after the procedure, with only minimal discomfort lasting a few hours. A clear shield is placed over the treated eye and will be removed by the surgeon the following day. Patients treated with LASIK will find their vision improve dramatically over the next 24-48 hours, depending on the original degree of myopia. Vision is generally stable fairly quickly depending on the script e.g. the higher the script the longer it will take to stabilize. It is important to remember to blink normally so that the surface of the eye remains well lubricated and comfortable. You are required to be seen at I month, 3 months, 6 months, 12 months and 24 months after surgery. It is most important that you keep these appointments.
After surgery: PRK PRK may have a painful eye for the first 24-36 hours after treatment due to the removal of the corneal epithelium. The pain has been likened to that experienced in cases of snow blindness, "flash burns" and the feeling of "sand in the eye". Postoperative medication, such as analgesics, will be supplied to help ease any discomfort. Keeping BOTH eyes closed for as long as possible for the first two days will minimise movement of the eye underneath the patch and help ease discomfort. The pain should be gone by the second day. You will be monitored until the epithelium has healed (2-4 days). Don't expect your vision to be completely clear in the first week. |
